Rizal Landing Site is one of the latest developed monuments in honor of the Philippines’ National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. Rizal Landing Site is situated in Sta. Cruz beach where Jose Rizal landed at 7:00 pm on July 17, 1892 to begin his expatriation life in Dapitan. Together with Captain Delgras and three artillery men, they walked through Sta. Cruz Street with a “farol de combate” or lantern going to the Casa Real. He was submitted to Don Ricardo Carnicero, a Spanish Military governor of Dapitan during that time. Later on his exile, Rizal made the Relief Map of Mindanao and the City Plaza Square. He attended Sunday Mass at the nearby St. James Church during his stay.

RIZAL MUSEUM IN DAPITAN CITY

The interesting life of Dr. Jose Rizal was one of the reason why I went to Dapitan City where the Rizal Museum  was located. I'm already tired that day because I just arrived from a short trip in Dumaguete City. The big waves scared me in this travel, luckily I rode a big fast craft. Its raining when I reached Dapitan Port. I negotiated with some of the tricycle drivers so that I can reach Rizal Museum.

A month after Rizal landed in Dapitan, a Spaniard from Manila brought lottery tickets to Dapitan to sell it. Dr. Jose P. Rizal, politico-military Governor Ricardo Carcinero and a Spaniard from Dipolog bought a ticket which fortunately won for them P20,000. Rizal share was about P6,200. He gave P2,000 to his beloved father and P200 to his friend in Hongkong named Basa. He invested the remaining money in business, bought lands and built houses in Talisay which is now popularly known as the Rizal Shrine.
