BUTUAN CITY: BALANGAY FESTIVAL 2013

Once again, the City of Butuan will be celebrating their Balangay Festival. Several activities are lined up for the celebration like Mutya Hong Butuan Pageant, Sportsfest and Santacruzan.

History

The wooden balangay was used by early Filipinos to trade with neighboring Asian countries even before the Spanish occupation.

The balangay was made by the Sama people from Tawi-Tawi, known for their craftsmanship in building boats.

The boat builders rely only on knowledge passed down from one generation to another and often, they will construct the balangay without using a blueprint.

Tentative Schedule of Activities:

  • Rekorida sa Kadlawon
  • Motorcade & Opening Ceremonies
  • Sayawan sa Butuan
  • Batyag Butuan
  • Panagtagbo Art Festival
  • Amateur Singing Contest
  • Concert at the Park Film Showing
  • Invitational Motorcross Racing Competition
  • Santacruzan & Flores de Mayo
  • Mutya Hong Butuan Pageant
  • Balangay Festival Closing Ceremonies

This big event is not only to celebrate the Balangay Festival but also to showcase and promote Butuan as one of the leading tourist destination, not only in the Philippines, but worldwide.
